Launch of the Global Jewish Literary Alliance

A new initiative aims to bring together writers, researchers and curators working on Jewish literary projects

A new platform launches tonight to offer resources and an online community for Jewish fiction writers and those writing literature of Jewish interest around the world. The Global Jewish Literary Alliance aims to encourage more writers to explore ‘Jewish’ content, as well as creating a centralised hub to connect professionals and writers working in the literary sphere. The platform will also provide information on funding, residences and events.

“The Covid pandemic showed the benefits of connecting with people around the world and the possibilities of transatlantic collaborations, and this alliance allows us to reap the benefits of that,” said Juliet Simmons, director of the UK’s Wingate Prize, which is one of the founders of the new body. “Apart from offering a support network, we hope to ensure writers have the resources they need to write Jewish books, that readers are aware of these works and that communities and institutions have the resources they need to create programmes around Jewish literature.” Alongside the Wingate Prize, the founders feature Jewish Book Council in the US, the Jewish Community Centre Association of North America (including Canada) and the London arts centre, JW3.
