Join Jewish Renaissance and The Jewish Square Mile Project for a guided walk exploring the first Jewish Cemetery in England: a 1,000-year-old Jewish burial ground that now lies beneath the iconic Barbican, just outside the Roman Wall surrounding the City of London. Over the last year, a remarkable new project has begun to reveal and celebrate its history. Accompanied by the project’s originators, we’ll walk the perimeter of the cemetery to understand the layers of the Square Mile’s Jewish geography and discover the stories of medieval Jews who came here with William the Conqueror and remained until their expulsion in 1290.
Led by JSQ trustees Howard Morris and Jan Marc Petroschka, with JR executive director Dr Aviva Dautch.
Meeting point: Barbican Centre, Silk Street, London, EC2Y 8DS
