East End Yiddish Theatreland Walking Tour

Monday 2 November (2-4pm)

Discover the exciting, engaging and sometimes tragic history of London’s East End Yiddish theatre scene. Historian and performer Dr Vivi Lachs leads a walk through Whitechapel, along the streets that bore witness to the ever-changing repertoire of Yiddish creativity.

The tour will last approximately 1.5 hours; comfortable walking shoes recommended.

Dr Vivi Lachs is a historian of the Jewish East End, research fellow at Queen Mary, University of London, and a performer of Yiddish poetry and song. She is the author of a number of books, including East End Jews: Sketches from the London Yiddish Press and Whitechapel Noise: Jewish Immigrant Life in Yiddish Song and Verse, London 1884-1914. She co-hosts The Cockney Yiddish Podcast, is vice-chair of the Yiddish Cafe Trust and regularly leads walking tours of Jewish London.
