Darker Shade of Pale: Shtetl to Colony explores the history of South Africa's Lithuanian Jewish community through the experience of her grandfather, Maurice. Part memoir, part global story of migration, Posel illuminates the struggles of South Africa's migrants whilst challenging the myth of Jewish exceptionalism.
