Windsor & Hampton Court: Anglo-Jewish History in the Royal Palaces

Join us on an overnight jaunt to Berkshire this spring as we take a fascinating deep dive into Anglo Jewish history. We'll tour Hampton Court Palace and learn about the Tudors – with some intriguing Jewish connections. At Windsor Castle we’ll be joined by award-winning biographer Anne Sebba for a behind-the-scenes look at Wallis Simpson, Duchess of Windsor, from a Jewish perspective. We'll also visit the Runnymede monument, where King John signed the Magna Carta in 1215, and learn how this democratic document of huge international import proved problematic for the medieval Jewish community. Plus a riverside dinner, lunch and overnight stay at a comfortable and well-appointed hotel. This is sure to be a royally good JR short break.

Tour highlights include:

  • Exclusive guided tours of Hampton Court Palace and Windsor Castle;

  • Talk by Anne Sebba, author of That Woman: The Life of Wallis Simpson, Duchess of Windsor;

  • Lecture charting the relationship between the Crown and the Jewish Community, plus a visit to the Runnymede monument to the Magna Carta;

  • Overnight stay at the four-star Runnymede on Thames, a luxurious and relaxing spa hotel (breakfast included);

  • Three-course riverside dinner (vegetarian/pescetarian) and delicious light lunch.

Led by JR’s executive director Dr Aviva Dautch.
