The Pianist: Bringing Warsaw’s Music to the London Stage (Online)

When Roman Polanski’s Holocaust drama The Pianist came out in 2002, it won almost 50 awards, including three Oscars. Now, as the story makes its world premiere on the stage at London's Park Theatre (15 October – 28 November), we bring you a conversation between the musical’s writer/director Thom Southerland and historical consultant Angela Gluck Wood.

Based on Wladyslaw Szpilman‘s bestselling memoir of the same name, the Park Theatre’s production features original compositions by the Polish Jewish pianist and Holocaust survivor. His pieces, which are being performed alongside his life story for the first time, have been reworked for theatre by Simon Lee, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s long-time musical director, to evoke wartime Warsaw.
