As Bevis Marks Synagogue in the City of London prepares to open its new heritage centre this spring, we’re delving into the history of Jewish life in the Square Mile, from a newly discovered medieval cemetery to lives of current day City professionals. We’re covering this fascinating urban history in our Winter 2026 issue and at this special online event you can hear directly from those who live and work in the area. We’ll be joined by Rabbi Shalom Morris, live from Bevis Marks, to hear the stories behind the synagogue’s collection of artefacts and artwork; historian Rory MacLellan, who explores medieval life in the shadow of the Tower of London; Jan-Marc Petroschka from The Jewish Square Mile project; and JR’s executive director Dr Aviva Dautch, who follows in the footsteps of Shakespeare to reveal how the playwright drew on the City’s Jewish presence to inform some of his most famous plays.
Please register below to receive the Zoom link, which will be sent out a few days before the event.*
